Kathleen (Kathy) Smith, born in West View Township near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was a beloved daughter of Robert A. and Patricia A. (Winter) Scullion. She was the cherished firstborn and a guiding light within her family whose love and dedication touched all who knew her.
Kathy shared a beautiful partnership of 47 years with her loving husband, Ernest (Ernie) W. Smith. Together, they built a warm and nurturing home filled with love for their children and grandchildren. Kathy’s legacy lives on through their children: Nicholas A. Smith and his wife Stephanie; Meighan M. (Smith) Ammenwerth and her husband Cory; Amanda T. (Smith) Jacobe along with her husband Nicholas and their grandson Vincent A. Jacobe. She was also a devoted mother to her grandchildren and children by adoption—Keegan A. Smith, Logan A. Smith, and Brianna N. Smith—who held a special place in her heart.
Kathy’s family extended beyond her immediate household, including her beloved brothers and sisters: Robert J. Scullion and his wife Diana; Donald Scullion; Dennis Scullion and his wife Tamara; and Janet (Scullion) Wade with her husband Barry. She was also warmly connected to her extended family through Ernie’s brothers and sisters-in-law, all of whom shared in the joy of knowing Kathy’s generous spirit.
A cradle Catholic from baptism through her lifetime, Kathy’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. From attending Saint Athanasius Catholic School in her hometown to fostering her children’s spiritual journeys through confirmations, she honored her faith deeply. Her commitment extended to community involvement, including supporting local Catholic schools, serving as a den mother for the Girl Scouts, and volunteering with the Neighborhood Network at Saints Peter and Paul Church to help those in need. One of her most treasured contributions was the ad-hoc Thanksgiving Ministry, where she poured her heart into creating a welcoming, warm, and festive Thanksgiving dinner celebrated with real plates, linen tablecloths, and thoughtful centerpieces, making everyone feel like family.
Throughout life’s many changes—including over 28 moves in 25 years due to work relocations—Kathy remained an expert organizer and a source of stability. Her philosophy of setting up the kitchen and bedrooms first ensured her family always had a place to gather and rest amidst transitions. A true "Mom’s mom," she cared for her family with unmatched devotion and opened her heart and home to many who needed shelter and love.
Kathy’s personality shone through her love of cooking and baking, though she humorously steadfastly refused to eat peas—a playful quirk that brought laughter and lighthearted moments to her family. Her quick wit and favorite sayings, like “I’m a nice person!!” when frustrated, and “I don’t know what is wrong with you people, but I’m Normal,” revealed her warmth and charm. An avid reader of romance novels, especially Danielle Steele, and a lover of puzzles and games, Kathy found joy in life’s simple pleasures. Her love of laughter, playful pranks, and treating everyone like family embodied the heart of who she was.
The family will welcome friends to honor Kathy’s memory on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Newcomer Funeral Home, Winter Park Chapel from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Autism Speaks of Florida, a cause close to Kathy’s heart for the support it provided to Keegan and Logan in their early years.
