Listen to Obituary

Kimberly Yvonne Owens, affectionately known as Kim, was born on May 15, 1974, in Rochester, New York. She departed this life on April 8, 2026, at the age of 51.

Kim leaves to cherish her memory her beloved son and only child, Xavier Lee Jamal Owens, the center of her world and the joy of her life. She is also survived by her devoted mother, Orsceola L. Owens‑Lovett (LeRoy Lovett); her brother Corey S. Owens, Sr; her sister Dawn Mbele‑Pitts and brother‑in‑law Jamal A. Mbele‑Pitts; and her cherished nephews and nieces: Corey Owens, Jr., Cobey Owens, Taylor Mbele‑Pitts, Jasmine Mbele‑Pitts, Cadence Owens, and Khaleb Owens. She also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends whose lives she touched deeply.

Kim was preceded in death by her father, Baker T. Owens, Jr., who passed on March 5, 2019.

A proud graduate of Nazareth High School, Class of 1992, Kim went on to earn her A.S. in Criminal Justice in 1994 and later her B.S. in 2010. Her commitment to education reflected her determination, resilience, and drive to better herself and provide for her son.

Kim’s voice was her gift to the world. She began singing at First Born Church of the Living God, where she also served as an Evangelist. Her musical journey started with The Ambassadors for Christ, where she sang and directed the choir. In the summer of 1991, she joined Uneek, an all‑female gospel group that traveled widely, blessing audiences with their ministry. The group released two albums that remain loved and appreciated to this day.

When Kim later moved to Philadelphia, she quickly became known as the “Boss Lady.” Her natural leadership, magnetic personality, and unmatched ability to bring people together made her a pillar in every community she touched. Whether organizing events, uplifting others, or creating spaces filled with joy, Kim did everything with excellence. Her creativity was boundless, and her sharp, vibrant personality left an impression on everyone she met.

Above all, Kim lived life fully and gratefully. Her greatest pride and deepest love was her son, Xavier. She poured her whole heart into raising him, guiding him, and celebrating the man he is becoming.

Kim was a force—talented, bold, loving, and unforgettable. Her presence lit up every room, and her absence will be felt profoundly by all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, music, laughter, strength, and love.

We love you, Kim. Your voice, your spirit, and your light will forever remain in our hearts.
