Listen to Obituary

Mark Steven Gillespie, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, age 66, of Orlando, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, after a battle with cancer. He was born in Hamilton, Ohio to Richard Leroy Gillespie and Carol Sue Gillespie, both of whom have preceded him in death, along with his older sister, Connie Sue (John) Stott. Mark was dearly loved and is survived by his devoted wife of 33 years, Moira Ann Gillespie (Boylan), daughter Margaret Reed Gillespie, son Connor Richard Gillespie, brother David Paul (Christy) Gillespie, sister Amy Diane (David) Eden, and 17 nieces and nephews.

Mark was born and raised in Hamilton, Ohio, and was a graduate of Taft High School in Hamilton, Ohio, and Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky. Mark worked as a commercial underwriter in the insurance industry for 42 years, beginning in Lansing, Michigan and subsequently accepted positions in the years following in Tampa, Florida, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Orlando, Florida.

Mark will be dearly missed by his many friends and family. Mark enjoyed hosting frequent festive gatherings with family and friends where he would try out his latest cocktail recipes and was always quick to entertain with humorous stories. Mark knew how to get the most out of life and was relied upon by many for restaurant recommendations and for suggested travel itineraries. Always one to do his research and comb through reviews, Mark’s suggestions could always be relied upon. Mark loved the water and sand, gravitating toward it throughout his life, whether it was sailing a small sailboat and boating on the lakes of Ohio and Indiana as a teenager, sailing on the Chesapeake Bay while living in Pennsylvania, spending countless beach vacations with his young family in Florida, or enjoying the serenity of the lakes of Michigan and island hopping throughout the Caribbean later in life. Mark lived life well and always had his family and friends close by his side while he did so.
