Mary Lee Gwyn Wilson
On July 7, 2025, Mary Lee Gwyn Wilson passed away from complications related to a stroke she suffered on July 4, 2025. Mary Lee is survived by her son, Thomas G. Wilson, and his wife, Vicki L. Wilson, from Ormond Beach.
Mary Lee was born on May 29, 1933, in Roanoke, Virginia, the only child of Henry and Mary Novella Gwyn. She was raised in Orlando and graduated from Orlando High School in 1951. She attended Florida State University and graduated from the University of Virgina with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She was formerly married to Charles A. Wilson, Sr. and had three children, Arthur, Mary and Thomas.
Mary Lee began her nursing career as an OB/GYN instructor at Pensacola Junior College and then taught for more than 20 years at Valencia Community College in Orlando. Mary Lee had a passion to teach labor and delivery techniques at Orlando Regional Medical Center and often walked to work wearing a white nursing dress and bonnet. Her free time was spent raising three children with occasional trips to New Smyrna Beach for summer vacations. Mary Lee took pleasure playing bridge with friends that lived in the Lake Cherokee and Lake Lancaster neighborhoods.
Mary Lee was a dedicated and active member of St. Luke’s Cathedral in downtown Orlando. She cherished the fellowship, supported lay ministry activities and truly appreciated the wonderful music played at special events and services of the cathedral. Mary Lee loved to laugh, make fun of herself and treasured a well-made Old Fashioned in the evening. Mary Lee will be missed and was loved by many.
