She was born in Malabon, Philippines on February 14, 1938. A graduate of Arellano University, Minerva spent most of her teaching profession as an English and Filipino professor at Polytechnic University of the Philippines.
Minerva was married to Lazaro Mariano in 1963, who was also her colleague at the same university. Together they were blessed with 4 wonderful children, Maria Linda, Wilhelmina, Louie and Johnald. The heart of her family, we remember Minerva as a very loving mom who enveloped everyone with her warm embrace making them always feel safe and protected. She can be so funny, sometimes making the whole family burst into laughter and she wouldn’t even realize what she just said or did.She led by example, showing those around her what it means to live a life filled with love, integrity and compassion.
Minerva’s warmth extended beyond her family. She had a way of making everyone feel welcome in her home.Friends, neighbors and even strangers–she treated them all like family. You can not leave her home without eating because she will watch you until you were truly full with the wonderful meals she served.
In her final days, her concern was still for her family, reminding everyone to take care of each other. We will remember her strict but gentle guidance, her comforting words, her generosity and her unwavering support to her children. Minerva, you were more than a mother and a friend, you were a rock and a guiding star. Your love will continue to light our way. We love you so much!
