Opelial 'Vie' Allum, dearly cherished by all who knew her, passed away peacefully...

Opelial “Vie” Allum, dearly cherished by all who knew her, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026, in Orlando, Florida, at the age of 88. Born on September 22, 1937, in Grange Hill, Jamaica, Vie grew to embody the spirit of warmth, hospitality, and unwavering devotion that would define her life.

From an early age, Vie was known for her kind heart and ability to make everyone feel welcome. Her warmth and grace shaped every chapter of her life. She began her career as a flight attendant with BWIA, where she put countless travelers at ease with her caring spirit. She later became a restaurateur, bringing people together through delicious food and fellowship, and eventually found success in retail sales, where her sense of style and genuine care for others made a lasting impression.

Central to everything in Vie’s life was her unwavering faith and her devotion to her family. She tended to both with loving care, finding joy in the simplest pleasures: nurturing her beloved garden, sharing laughter with those she loved, and living out her beliefs with gentle conviction. Her home was always open and inviting and filled with the sounds of joyful conversation.

Vie’s greatest joy was her family, whom she nurtured with tenderness, wisdom, and strength. She is survived by her loving husband Neville Allum; her devoted children Raymond (Gaye), Paul, Norman (Sayuri) and Donna Allum. Vie’s legacy continues in the hearts of her treasured grandchildren, Noah (Madison), Maya, and Kai Allum, who will always remember the loving embrace and encouragement she so freely gave.  She is also survived by her sibings: Shiela Chin, Jasmine Williams, Eric (Uda) Lai and Gloria Lai.

Central to everything in Vie’s life was her unwavering faith and her devotion to her family.

She joins in eternal peace her beloved father, George Lai; mother, Louise Lai; brothers Hugh and Arthur Lai; sister Lurline Wong; and daughter-in-law Lisa Allum.

To all who knew her, Vie’s kindness and commitment were hallmarks of a beautiful soul—offering comfort, guidance, and unconditional care without reservation. She leaves an enduring legacy of faith, compassion, and the gentle strength that gathered family and friends close, time and time again.
