Pearl A. Parnell, born on June 4, 1944, in Rimini, South Carolina, lived 81 amazing years touching and influencing the lives of many along the way. As the daughter of the late Reuther Samuel Sinkler and the late Eleanora (James) Sinkler, Pearl was the youngest girl of eight children from this union. She was a devoted mother to daughters, Karen Ramona Singletary-Fuller (Jerrett) and Monica Singletary Woods (Stuart). Additionally, she was an “over the top” proud Nana to grandson, Tyler C. Woods.

Work ethic was a primary character trait instilled at a very young age; as such, Pearl’s drive to excel and to assist others with doing so was cultivated throughout every interaction. Upon graduating as valedictorian from Manchester High School in Pinewood, South Carolina, she attended Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina, and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with a minor in Mathematics. She subsequently obtained her Master’s of Education from South Carolina State College. It was only fitting to share her knowledge by pursuing a career as an educator with Florence School District I, Hartsville School District, and Florence-Darlington Technical School as a math and chemistry teacher. For a lifetime, she molded the lives of students from diverse backgrounds with a stern demeanor complimented with never-ending love and encouragement. Upon retirement, she continued to share her love and care for the well-being of others as a Hospice Volunteer.

Pearl was a faithful member of New Ebenezer Baptist Church in Florence, South Carolina serving in various capacities as a Girl Scout Troop Leader, Junior Missionary Advisor, Vacation Bible School Director, an active member of the Senior Women’s Missionary, and chairperson of several committees.

Along with her daughters, she leaves cherished memories shared by her sister, Eleanora (Ruby) Canty of New York, New York, and her brother, William Leon Sinkler of Baltimore, Maryland. She was proceeded in transitioning by her sister, Lucinda Buckman of Gary, Indiana, her brother, Luther Sinkler of Clairton, Pennsylvania, her sister, Eva Jones of New York, New York, her brother, Steven Richard Sinkler of Sumter, South Carolina, and her brother, Walter Sinkler of McKeesport, Pennsylvania. Pearl shared the inseparable bond of friendship with members of New Ebenezer Baptist Church and Florence District 1 educators.
