Penny Ajero passed away peacefully on June 16, 2025, in Orlando, Florida, surrounded by her husband and children. She was 79.
Born in Manila, Philippines, on November 1, 1945, Penny was the eldest daughter of 13 siblings. She graduated from the Baguio General Hospital School of Nursing in 1967 and soon after moved to Montreal, Canada, before settling in New York City, Teaneck, NJ, and eventually Orlando, FL. She touched thousands of lives during her 30 year career as a registered nurse at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and was known for her calm, steady presence, as well as her ability to provide care with compassion under stressful situations.
She and her husband Edgar were happily married for 52 years and raised four children — Andrei, Melissa, Marjorie, and Melanie. She and Edgar spent their well-earned retirement traveling the world, touring more than 70 countries, usually via cruise. She visited Paris several times, including their 50th Wedding Anniversary celebration with the whole family.
Penny was an excellent cook and was particularly known for her pancit, cheesecake and bibingka. She loved to crochet and needlepoint. She completed over 50 needlepoint canvases and countless blankets and scarves with care and love for family, friends and even their pets. She had an extremely dry sense of humor, often making her family laugh with her direct remarks.
One of her greatest dreams came true last year when she became a grandmother. Penny lit up with pride whenever she spoke of her granddaughter ‘Ollie’, always ready to share photos and videos with family and friends.
She is survived by her husband Edgar; her children Andrei, Melissa, Marjorie, and Melanie; her granddaughter Olive; and her siblings Carolina, Charity, Anne Shirley, Maritess, Jerome, and Michael.
She built a beautiful life — full of family, purpose, creativity, and curiosity to see the world. Her presence will be greatly missed by those who love her dearly.
