Philip John Erthal, Jr.

Philip John Erthal Jr., age 71, of Orlando, Florida passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 26, 2026.

Known for his generous heart, Phil was incredibly selfless with both his time and energy, always willing to lend a helping hand. Whether repairing something that was broken, sharing his knowledge, or simply being there when someone needed him; he found joy in helping others. He loved to tinker, fix things, and solve problems, and there seemed to be very little he couldn't repair - or at least attempt to. He also had a soft spot for animals, especially his best buddy, Tiny Dog. Above all, Phil cherished his family. A devoted, son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. His greatest happiness came from spending time with those he loved. His children and grandchildren brought him endless pride and joy, and the love he shared with his family will remain one of his greatest legacies.

Phil dedicated 49 years of his life to AT&T as a Service Technician, where he earned the respect of his coworkers through his hard work, skill, and unwavering commitment. He also proudly served for many years as a Union Steward with the Communications Workers of America (CWA), advocating for and supporting his fellow workers with the same compassion and integrity that defined every aspect of his life.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Erthal, parents, Philip Erthal Sr. and Ann Marie Erthal, brother, George Erthal, and sister, Nancy Rogers.

He is survived by his daughters, Christina M. (Carson) Gore III, Katie A. (Matt) Alwin, Jennifer E. Erthal, and his son, James P. (Brooke Lear) Erthal, grandchildren, Savannah Gore, Carson Gore IV, Isabella Gore, Luke Gore, Jack Alwin, Sam Alwin and Malcolm Erthal, sister, Joan (Jack) McStravick, his dog, Tiny Dog, and countless close friends & coworkers - all whose lives are better for knowing him.

Phil will be remembered for his kindness, his generosity, his quiet strength, and his willingness to help anyone in need. His legacy lives on in the family he loved so deeply and in the countless lives he touched through his compassion, dedication, and unwavering love.
