It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Philip Ludwin, who left this world on July 28, 2025, at the age of 92 in Lake Mary, Florida. Born on January 24, 1933, in Brooklyn, New York, Philip lived a life rich in laughter, love, and memorable moments, leaving behind a legacy cherished by his family and friends.
Philip's journey began with a solid education, graduating from high school in the vibrant borough of Brooklyn. His thirst for knowledge and connection led him to become fluent in four languages: Yiddish, Spanish, Russian, and English, showcasing his deep appreciation for culture and communication. He dedicated 15 years to a successful career in the financial services business, where his professionalism shone through.
Philip's warm personality made him a beloved figure among those who knew him. He was a natural jokester, always ready with a silly phrase that would light up a room. His sayings like, "Anybody work here?" and "You know what?" became classics among friends and family, evoking smiles and hearty laughter. Whether playing jokes or sharing heartfelt moments, he was known for his caring nature and protective spirit, always looking out for those he loved.
One cannot forget his enthusiastic hobbies, which included coin collecting, watch collecting, stamp collecting, and even the joy of baseball card collecting. His adventurous spirit also found expression in his athletic pursuits as a softball player, contributing to the wonderful tapestry of his life filled with passion.
Philip was not only a loving husband to his wife, Harriet Ludwin, but also a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He leaves behind his son, Jeffrey Ludwin, along with his daughter-in-law, Susan Ludwin; his son, Bruce Ludwin, and his daughter-in-law, Laurie Ludwin; and his beloved daughter, Michele Matteini, and her husband, Russell Matteini. Philip's family tree continues to flourish with his grandchildren: Sierra Matteini, Jamie Nash (Brian Nash), Bryan Ludwin (Melanie Tolchin), Jason Ludwin (Jessica Ludwin), Joshua Ludwin, and Ronnie Ludwin as well as his cherished great-grandchildren: Max, River, Rachael, and Olivia. Each of them carries a part of Philip’s spirit and the memories they created together will forever hold a special place in their hearts.
An important part of Philip's life included his service in the Korean War, reflecting his commitment to his country and his generosity of spirit. He was proud of his experiences, which shaped him into the loving and sentimental man his family would come to adore.
Philip’s proudest accomplishments also included exceptional moments in film, where he appeared as an extra in two significant movies, The Ten Commandments and Quo Vadis, leaving a creative mark that continues to inspire his loved ones.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Julius Ludwin. Philip's absence will be felt profoundly by many, yet his memories will continue to bring joy and laughter to those he touched throughout his remarkable life.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Philip's life through the scheduled services. A Prayer Service will be held on August 3, 2025, at Newcomer Funeral Home, South Seminole, Longwood, Florida, from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM. Following this, a Graveside Service will take place on August 4, 2025, at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, Florida, starting at 9:30 AM.
Though Philip has left this earthly realm, his spirit will always linger in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
