Phillip Nunez, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2026, in Orlando, Florida at the age of 93. Born on January 8, 1933, in Brooklyn, New York, Phillip lived a full and vibrant life that was marked by his unwavering spirit, dedication to family, and commitment to his community.
Phillip was a man of many talents and interests. He was known for his welcoming and inclusive personality, always ready to share a laugh or lend a hand. A skilled handyman, he took pleasure in fixing things and expressing his creativity through woodworking and carpentry. His passions extended to gardening and baseball, where he found both joy and solace. Phillip also devoted much of his time to serving in church ministries, reflecting his spiritual nature and commitment to uplifting those around him.
His proudest accomplishments included his cherished family, the positive impact he made within the community, and his remarkable ability to overcome challenges throughout his life. Phillip created lasting memories through significant milestones and celebrations, such as a memorable 30-60-90 Roberto Clemente themed birthday celebration, family trips to Puerto Rico, and the ordination of his son as a priest. He took immense pride in the graduations of his children and grandchildren, witnessing their growth and achievements.
Phillip is fondly remembered by his wife, Julia Núñez; his children, Linda Núñez, Phillip Núñez, Orlando Núñez, and Felipe Núñez; his grandchildren, Orlando Núñez, Daniel Ruiz, and Alessandra Ruiz; and his sister, Ilka Bowles. His legacy continues to live on in the hearts of those he touched.
Phillip was preceded in death by his father, Felipe Núñez; his mother, Petra Carattini; and his sisters, Vilma Fernandez, Carmen Núñez, and Margaret Núñez. He served honorably in the United States Army. He was very proud of his Puerto Rican culture and heritage, which shaped his legacy for his family.
Visitation will be held on January 21, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home in East Orlando. A Mass honoring Phillip's life will occur on January 22, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church, followed by burial at Chapel Hill Cemetery at 12:00 PM.
