It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Robert Duwayne Burlingame, known to many as “Burly”. At age 88, he passed away on January 22, 2026, in Longwood, Florida. Born on November 18, 1937, in Kane, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Beryl and Evelyn Carlson Burlingame.
Burly touched many lives with his wisdom, his sense of humor and his kindness to others. He proudly served in the United States Navy. Following his military service, he worked for many years as a Recreational Therapist at Warren State Hospital, where he was known for his patience, creativity, and genuine care for those he served.
Burly shared 31 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Lynn Ruth Burlingame, building a life rooted in love and laughter. He is survived by his wife, Lynn; his son, Mark Burlingame; his daughter, Michele Miko; his stepchildren, Lori Mills, Mike Stearns, and Kathleen Nakamura; many cherished grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Beck, and his son, Michael Burlingame.
A lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, there wasn’t a sport that Burly didn’t watch. He was kind, warmhearted, and had a great sense of humor—and he made friends everywhere he went, leaving laughter and connection in his wake.
A celebration of life will be held on February 7 at 1 PM at the Community Alliance Church in Winter Springs. We invite all who knew and loved him to join us in honoring Burly’s memory. IN lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the American Cancer Society in memory of Robert Burlingame.
Burly will be remembered for his steady presence, and the deep love, laughter, and friendships he brought to his family and community.
