Rogers, Robert H., Jr., age 79 of Orlando, passed away November 5. He was born in Los Angeles, CA and proudly served in the US Navy for 20 years. He was a loving father, grandpa and papa, a 35 year member of St. Stephen Presbyterian Church. He was a popular little league coach and someone well known for being patriotic and proud of the country that he served and protected.
He was an avid fisherman and will be remembered by his children and grand-children for their trips to Titusville together at 4 am. His daughter will remember fondly the many camping trips and welcoming him home from tours of duty. He will be remembered for the long distance calls to his son during the annual Army-Navy football games, complaining that the Army cheated. He also enjoyed watching the Gators and Bucs.
Bob met his wife while stationed in Key West. He served during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was the Chef on many carriers while visiting many ports of call. He was a perfectionist in the kitchen. On land he was a Company Commander and Band Leader at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center. After serving in the Navy he retired with his family to Orlando. His public life continued with many years with Orlando Utilities.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years Betty Rogers, and a son Robert Rogers, III. He is survived by his daughter, Betsy Penalosa and her husband Armando of New Port Richey; his son Randy Rogers and his wife Jill of Ringgold, GA; grandchildren Daniel and Ana Penalosa of New Port Richey, Nicolas, Ava and Jaxson Rogers of Ringgold, GA; sister Pat Cable of Zachariah, KY and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6pm-9pm Monday, November 10 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 895 S. Goldenrod Road, Orlando. Funeral services will be held at 11am Tuesday, November 11 at St. Stephen Presbyterian Church, 8601 Lake Underhill Road, Orlando. Interment with military honors by the US Navy will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, 1603 Greenwood Street, Orlando. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gulfside Hospice, 6117 Trouble Creek Road, New Port Richey, FL 34653.
