Samuel "Sammy" C.A. Burke

Samuel “Sammy” Burke was born in Kingston, Jamaica, on Nov. 1, 1946, to parents Myrtle and Allan Burke. The youngest of their three children, Sammy grew up alongside his sister Marguerite “Peggy” and brother, George. From an early age, Sammy’s quiet nature, determination and love of family were apparent as his defining characteristics.

Sammy graduated from Camperdown High School and was recognized as a talented footballer.

He migrated to Montreal, Canada to study at Aviron Technical Institute. After completion, he worked in Toronto, Canada for eight years. He moved to New York City and then put down roots and built a community in Orlando, Florida.

On February 14, 1982, he married Lesline “Ann” Richards. Their 44-year love story was deeply rooted in their vows, producing two children and four grandchildren.

Sammy was devoted to his family. They would often take road trips across the east coast as far north as Canada and south as Key West to visit extended family, friends, explore new places and visit old stomping grounds.

He was equally as committed to his work. He was a respected and diligent HVAC technician until he retired in 2014. Throughout his career, he took many apprentices under his tutelage, generously offering his time and talent to those burgeoning in their craft.

From Sunday dinners to family parties, Sammy was happiest when surrounded by family and friends, sharing in the moments that brought everyone together — especially when curried goat or music was involved.

Sammy loved music. As an avid record collector, he often traveled to record shows or held “sessions” with friends. Cricket and soccer were his favorite sports — he could often be found with his phone, iPad and television all tuned to different games at once. He also took great pride in and was revered for his garden, where many would enjoy the actual fruits of his labor.

Sammy was a man of few words who expressed his convictions through his actions. He was loving, generous and patient. He was always there for his friends and family. No distance was too far for Sammy to visit a loved one to share a laugh, offer well-reasoned and judgment-free advice or just sit in silent comfort.

He rededicated his life to Jesus on March 7, 2026, and the Lord called him home on Sept. 15, 2026.

Sammy leaves behind his beloved wife, Ann; son Treig-Michael (Natasha Burke), daughter Kamali-Ann (Alex Auguste) and adored grandchildren Moriah, Natalia, Myles and Trey. He also leaves behind his devoted sister, Peggy, other relatives and a host of faithful friends.

Sammy will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy, however, will continue through the family he cherished, the friendships he nurtured, the wisdom he shared and the many lives he touched.

Celebrating the Life of Samuel "Sammy" Burke is Saturday, October 3, 2026 at 11am at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 5873 North Dean Road, Orlando, FL 32817.
