Shawn Janine Wilkins, born on May 2, 1964, in Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2025, at the West Orange Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, after a hard-fought and courageous battle with cancer.
Shawn's journey through life was marked by her indomitable spirit and unwavering determination. She graduated from Perry High School in Massillon, Ohio, in 1982, and later earned her degree from Stark State College in Canton, Ohio. Her career began as an occupational therapy assistant, where she displayed a genuine commitment to helping others before transitioning to customer service roles across multiple companies. Shawn found a lasting home at OCU, where she spent 17 years working diligently as a Utilities Services Coordinator before retiring earlier this year.
In addition to her professional achievements, Shawn was known for her brave, determined personality and positive attitude. She was a hard worker who rarely missed a day of work, tirelessly striving to achieve her goals despite the many challenges she faced throughout her personal life. She was also deeply involved in her community and her church. She enjoyed the opportunity to teach Bible study, which reflected her faith and commitment to helping others, Bible quizzing, and served as a camp counselor.
Shawn had a remarkable passion for music; she loved to sing and was a talented vocalist whose performances brought her immense joy and defined a significant part of her life. In her personal time, she cherished making dinner for her family and sharing meals together, creating a space of warmth and connection.
She is survived by her devoted parents, Burton and Marian J. (Duff) Wilkins; her loving sister, Cheryl Urciuoli, and her husband Ray; her brother, Burton Wilkins, Jr., and his wife Vicki; as well as five nieces, two great-nieces, and one great-nephew. Shawn’s family will forever remember her love, especially for her dear chihuahua, Coco, whom she raised since he was a 12-week-old puppy.
A memorial gathering will be held on December 6, 2025, from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm, followed by a memorial service from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home - East Orlando Chapel, 895 S Goldenrod Rd, Orlando, FL, 32822.
