Sofia "Nelly" Onelia Fornes

Sofia “Nelly” Onelia Fornes passed away on September 5, 2026, at the age of 94. Born on March 20, 1932, she lived a long life marked by deep faith, enduring love for her family, and a presence that brought warmth, laughter, and strength to those around her.

Nelly was a devoted Christian whose life reflected both conviction and care for others. She was funny, quick-witted, strong, and strong-willed, and she loved everyone in a way that made people feel welcome and cared for. Extremely family-oriented, she was the heart of many cherished moments. Gathering and feeding the family brought her great joy, and her home and table were expressions of her generous spirit. Every photo and gathering seemed to center around her, a reflection of the love her family had for her and the way she naturally drew people together.

She also took great pride in her appearance and never missed a hair or nail appointment. With a touch of family humor, she was known as Estee Lauder’s favorite client. Nelly carried herself with grace and confidence, and to those who knew and loved her, she was truly a queen.

Among the accomplishments she held most dear were being married for 70 years to her beloved husband, John Fornes, being a mother to her daughter, Jacqueline, and meeting all of her grandchildren. These blessings were central to her life and to the legacy she leaves behind.

Nelly is survived by her husband, John Fornes, and by her daughter, Jacqueline Ramos, and son-in-law, George Ramos. She also leaves behind a large and loving family of grandchildren: Iris Echavez, Frank Echavez, Ivette McNutt, Dennis McNutt, Serena Virzi, Louis Virzi, Christina Camacho, Jonathan Ramos, Pegi Ramos, Robert Anthony Camacho, Iris Marie Camacho, Lizaida Ramos, Miguel Vargas, and Gabrielle Vargas. Her memory will also be treasured by many beloved great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, whose lives are part of the lasting family circle she helped build with such love and devotion.

She was preceded in death by her father, Luis Negroni; her mother, Maria Teresa Campiz; and her son, Bobby Camacho.

Family and friends are invited to honor Nelly’s life on September 14, 2026, at Newcomer Funeral Home, Winter Park, 3806 Howell Branch Rd, Winter Park, FL 32792. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. A graveside service will follow from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Glen Haven Memorial Park, 2300 Temple Drive, Winter Park, FL 32789.

Sofia “Nelly” Onelia Fornes will be remembered for her faith, her humor, her strength, and the extraordinary love she gave so freely. Her life was a blessing to her family, and her memory will remain a source of comfort, pride, and enduring love.
