In loving memory of Stephen “Steve” Rzeczka, a kind-hearted and devoted father, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026, in Altamonte Springs, Florida, after a long battle with COPD.
Born on October 13, 1958, in Newport, Rhode Island, Steve lived a life defined by resilience, humor, and a deep love for his family. From a young age, he was a hard worker who did whatever needed to be done to support his family; sometimes holding 2 and 3 jobs at a time. Over the years, he wore many hats; driving a cab in New York in the 1980s, running his own landscaping business in the 1990s while also working for the New York public school system, and later working in pipeline infrastructure as a CDL truck operator and technician before his medical retirement. No matter the role, he took pride in providing for those he loved.
Above all else, Steve was a devoted father to his daughters, Stephanie, Renee, and Amanda Rzeczka. He often said they were his greatest accomplishments, and he showed that not just in words, but in the way he showed up every day. He was a steady, reassuring presence, a safe place, someone who made sure his family felt protected, supported, and loved no matter what. Even as an adult, he never stopped checking in, never stopped making sure his daughters made it home safely. That quiet, constant care defined who he was.
Steve had an easygoing nature and a playful sense of humor that could lighten even the hardest moments. He remained positive through life’s challenges, often making jokes and bringing comfort to those around him, even in his most difficult days. He had a way of making people feel heard, valued, and at ease; qualities that left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
He found joy in life’s simple, meaningful routines and in the connections they created with the people he loved. He was an avid fan of Jeopardy!, watching it nightly with Stephanie for many years; a tradition that became a cherished part of their bond. When new episodes weren’t on, they would revisit old ones together, never tiring of the shared experience. In more recent years, he spent countless evenings working on jigsaw puzzles side by side with her, finding both challenge and comfort in those quiet moments.
He shared a special connection with Amanda through their love of travel content, often watching and discussing U.S. travel vlogs and podcasts together. They enjoyed exploring places from afar, exchanging thoughts and reactions, and finding a sense of adventure and curiosity in those shared experiences.
Steve also had a deep love for music, especially Elvis Presley, and enjoyed classic country and Southern rock. He was known to sing “Don’t Walk Away Renee” to his daughter, a small but meaningful expression of the love he carried for his family. He enjoyed watching old Westerns and was a fan of Clint Eastwood, drawn to stories of grit, character, and resilience that reflected his own approach to life.
His love for animals was profound, especially for his beloved dogs, Loki and Lily, who were truly part of his daily life and brought him constant joy and companionship. Even as his health declined and his physical abilities became more limited, he remained committed to caring for them; helping with feeding, brushing, and making sure they were looked after. Being part of their routine mattered to him, and it was one more way he continued to give and show love in the quiet, steady way that defined him.
Steve is survived by his daughters, Stephanie, Renee, and Amanda Rzeczka; his siblings Karen King, Diane Quartararo, Debra Denton, Sharon Tusa, and Kathy Cimino; and his brother, Stanley Rzeczka. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph George Rzeczka and Pauline Inez (Briggs) Rzeczka, as well as his brothers, George and Thomas Rzeczka.
Steve’s legacy is one of quiet strength, unwavering love, and the sort of kindness that doesn’t seek attention but leaves a lasting mark. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
