Valerie Jean Bryan, age 91, formerly a long time resident of Miami Springs and Casselberry Florida, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2026. She moved to Plant City Florida in November 2023, to be closer to family and make new friends.

Born on June 22, 1935 in Covington, Kentucky, her young life revolved around thoroughbred horses and horse racing. In 1951, she married jockey, LD Batcheller and spent her early years as a young mother traveling north to New York and Kentucky and South to Miami where she would call home for 30 years.

In 1965, Jean attended Charron-Williams Secretarial School in Miami where she mastered shorthand, typing and dictation transcription. She built a long and successful career as an executive secretary working for Precision Metal Products, Hialeah Racecourse, Calder Racecourse and Coulter Electronics in the Miami area.

As a single mother, she raised her two daughters and was often found supporting their dance and cheerleading teams and high school football games and band. She moved to Orlando in 1980, where she continued to work as an executive secretary and later retired from Industrial Risk Insurers.

In 1998, Jean met Terry Bryan on a blind date, as they both shared a love for horseracing, married that same year and made their home in Casselberry, FL for the next 25 years. Their love for travel to Las Vegas, California, Maryland, Kentucky and throughout Florida gave them lots of memories, friendships and photos.

Jean loved to bowl, sing in the choir, dance, travel and make cross stitch gifts for others.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank A. Barnett and Ruth E. Barnett, and sister, Theresa Bryan.

She is survived by her husband, Terry Bryan, daughters, Pamela Keck and Rebecca Green, son, John Batcheller, son-in-law Brad Green, step-sons, Mark Eric Bryan, and Timothy Bryan, step daughter-in laws, Linda Bryan and Charlene Bryan and
