Velma was the second daughter of Leo Fournier and Yvonne (Michaud), who had five children: Clarence, Velma, Ann, Norman, and Nancy. Velma was born Sunday, June 23, 1940 in St Leonard - New Brunswick, Canada.

The Fournier family lived in Van Buren Maine, near the Canadian border town of St Leonard.

Velma married Michael Max (M.) Lane on Saturday, June 15, 1963, and they had three children: Michael Anthony Lane married Koko (deceased 2024), Susan Lane married Kevin McMahon, Steven Lane partner Ingela Nielsen.

The Lane family lived-in and moved from Van Buren, Maine; to Irvington, then Toms River, New Jersey; to Martinez, California; to Succasunna, New Jersey; ultimately settling in Clayton, California in 1973, where all three children were raised to adulthood.

Velma met Michael in Van Buren, Maine where he was stationed at the US Army Nike missile site.

They were married for 63 years.

Velma was a Registered Nurse, she started her career at the community hospital in Van Buren, Maine. She worked first in the general medicine department, then worked as a nursery nurse in New Jersey. Subsequently, after she and Michael moved to California, she did mobile exams for medical insurance companies, then worked in allergy specialist medical offices, where her daughter, Susan joined her as office manager.

In 2006, Velma and Michael moved from California to Florida to be closer to Velma’s sister, Nancy and her husband, Richard Clubb.

Velma had a great sense of humor as did her mother, Yvonne. It served her well raising her three children. She was a strong and caring woman, and a force with a “never give up” attitude. She had so much patience, because her husband has none. She was also an excellent cook, often sharing her recipes with family and friends.

Velma’s pastimes included ice skating (in her youth), then dancing at the American Legion with Michael M. (whom she married) in Van Buren. She loved music, singing along to all her favorite songs – from Gospel to Rock and Roll. She also loved to read novels and always had a book by her side. She also enjoyed doing puzzles of all kinds: jigsaw, crosswords, word find games, etc. She was hooked on television soap operas, her favorite being “The Young and the Restless,” which she often recorded. In mid-life, she learned how to golf and played with Steven at many different golf courses. She was always up for an adventure and trying somewhere new.

Velma was a devout Catholic her whole life, and she instilled her values to her children. She was very charitable, donating to many Catholic and Veterans charities.

Velma’s motto was “Go with the flow.”

Her devoted husband Michael, tended and cared for her until her passing on Saturday, August 22, 2026, where he was right by her side, along with her children.

Velma had a beautiful funeral mass service held at the Annunciation Catholic Church, Altamonte Springs, Florida on Friday, August 28, 2026.

Velma Marie Lane will be dearly missed by her family and friends, but is now at peace in heaven with the Lord for eternity.
