In Loving Memory of Yvan “Sonson” Vernet

Yvan Vernet, at the age of sixty-seven, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2025, leaving behind a legacy defined by love, perseverance, and selflessness. Born on October 23, 1958, in Lascahobas, Haiti, Yvan lived a life guided by faith, family, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved most.

A Life of Strength and Character

From the very beginning, Yvan had a presence that could not be ignored. His family gave him many names, but one stood out — Sonson — and like that name, he had a way of staying with people. Once you met him, you never forgot him.

Yvan was known for his independence, determination, and strength. He was never one to follow the crowd; instead, he carved his own path with courage, conviction, and confidence. Throughout his life, he embodied leadership and compassion qualities that earned him deep respect and lasting affection among family and friends. Even as a young man, his sense of purpose and wisdom made him seem far beyond his years—always guiding, mentoring, and, when needed, lecturing.

A Man of Service and Sacrifice

Yvan’s life was marked by his generosity and selflessness. From his early years in Haiti, Yvan demonstrated a deep passion for soccer—a talent that could have taken him to great heights. Yet, ever selfless, he chose a different path. Putting his family’s future first, he left behind what could have been and moved to America to build a better life for his siblings. Out of love and responsibility, Yvan set aside personal ambitions. His decision reflected the core of who he was — a man of courage, sacrifice, and devotion. Everything he did was for the people he loved most.

A Devoted Husband and Father

Yvan’s journey found its greatest meaning when he married his high school sweetheart, Yolaine — the woman who matched his strength, humor, and spirit every step of the way. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, resilience, and deep Haitian pride. There union was blessed with three children, who became the center of his world.

First came Alexandra, his firstborn and the one who made him “Dad.” The pride and joy that filled his face the first time he held her could’ve powered the whole of Port-au-Prince. Then came Ulrick, his son and reflection of his legacy, made him proud to carry on the family name — because greatness runs in the bloodline. And last, Christina, his baby girl. His joy. The one whose smile could melt away every worry in the world.

To Yvan, family was everything. He believed your children are your greatest blessings — pi bon bagay Bondye ka ba w. He taught his children to be strong yet kind, proud yet humble, to laugh often, and to love deeply. His proudest accomplishments were not found in material success, but in the family he raised and the lives he shaped.

His loved ones remember him as loving, honest, loyal, and strong — a man who led by example and taught them the importance of following their hearts and standing tall in their truth.

A Legacy That Lives On

Yvan “Sonson” Vernet’s life was a shining example of humility, perseverance, and unconditional love. He showed everyone around him that true strength is found in selflessness, and that love, when paired with determination, can build a foundation strong enough to support generations.

Though he may no longer walk among us, Yvan’s spirit lives on — in the laughter of his children, in the strength of his family, and in the countless lives he touched along the way. His spirit, his lessons, and that unforgettable smile will never fade.

Yvan “Sonson” Vernet will forever be remembered as a man who gave his all — for family, for love, and for life itself.
