Dr. Peter E Malatesta departed this life on May 15, 2016. He was a loving and caring husband, father and friend to all who knew and loved him. A devoted optometrist for 40 years, after graduating from the New England College of Optometry in 1976, he will be best remembered for his engaging personality and loyalty to his patients. He was born in Kittery, ME in 1948, and upon his marriage to Madeline, settled in Melrose, MA. In 1992, Peter moved his family and practice to Central Florida where he has resided since. He had a love of music, antique cars, all Boston sports teams, car racing and ballroom dancing. His family would also always call him โ€œthe smartest guy in the room.โ€

Peter is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Madeline; devoted son Craig Malatesta and his beloved daughter-in-law, Carri; adoring mother, Mary Malatesta of Apollo Beach, FL; brother, Paul F. Malatesta and his wife Karen of New Jersey; nieces, Elena Stymest and her husband Mark and Therese Delia and her husband Tom, both of Melrose Massachusetts; nephew Chris Malatesta and his wife Elizabeth of New Jersey; and brother-in-law Joseph Aurelia of Massachusetts and many cousins and extended family.

Wake and visitation with the family to be held at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 335 East State Road 434, Longwood, Florida 32750 on Thursday, May 19th from 6pm to 8pm, and Friday, May 20th at 8:30 to 9:15. Funeral services to be held at Annunciation Catholic, 1020 Montgomery Rd, Altamonte Springs, FL on Friday, May 20th at 9:30am. Interment to follow at Highland Memory Garden, 3329 E. Semoran Blvd., Apopka, FL. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to your favorite charity or the American Heart Association.
