Betty Jean Myers died Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at Advent Orlando Hospital. Betty Jean was born October 6, 1930 in Chicago Illinois to Roy Myers and Alice Marie (Peterson) Myers.
Betty Jean was an only child but her summers were spent with lots cousins in Bruce, Wisconsin. She started playing the organ at an early age and played for numerous weddings, funerals and Sunday services throughout her teen and early adult years. She was a beloved Sunday school teacher.
She worked for Litton, a company that was a leader in electronics, electronics and technology as a sales representative. She was a pioneer as a woman sales representative and traveled throughout the Midwest.
In 1977 she moved to Pompano Beach where she worked for a private family investment firm as controller and retired from position twenty years later.
She and her mother moved to Lutheran Haven, a senior living community in Oviedo, Florida after retirement. She was a member of the Lutheran Haven bell choir and the chimes quartet.
Betty Jean travel internationally with her parents. She especially enjoyed the photographic safaris she went on in Africa. Betty Jean was an animal lover and her photos of Africa are stunning.
After her father died, she and her mother continued to travel. They spent several Thanksgivings at a hotel in Bangkok Thailand where the staff went out of their way to prepare an American turkey dinner for them every year. On they way home they often spent time in San Francisco where they experienced a major earthquake one year. When her mother turned 80 they toured China and were able to walk the Great Wall of China.
Betty Jean was a loving and devoted child to her parents. Her mother spent her last 3 years at the nursing home in Lutheran Haven and Betty Jean spent every day with her. Her Mother never ate a meal alone.
Betty Jean was hospitalized on December 7 where she spent several weeks before being transferred to the Lutheran Haven nursing home. She returned to Advent Health Orlando Hospital where she died.
Betty Jean was the last survivor of her generation. Her parents, aunts and uncles and her first cousins all went to heaven before her. She is survived by several long time friends and lots of cousins. She will be missed.
Her funeral will be held on Saturday February 5 at 11:00 at Ascension Lutheran Church, 351 Ascension Dr., Casselberry Florida with the Rev. Raleigh Sims officating. Visitation will be ½ hour before the service. Burial will follow at St Luke's Lutheran Cemetery in Seminole County.
